2025/26 Oakville Rangers U10-U18 AAA Coach Selections

The Oakville Rangers Hockey Club (ORHC) is pleased and excited to announce our U10 to U18 AAA coaching selections for the 2025/26 season. Please read on for details.

These selections will support continued growth in the ORHC's collective bench strength that was established several years ago when the organization made a commitment to find and select the highest quality coaches. Since then, this focus on coach selection has been a key element of our improving development system which has led to a consistent improvement of our players and teams overall.

We believe that this announcement reflects another extremely strong coaching group who are the foundation, along with the support of our deep organizational resources, to continuing to build a "Best in Class AAA Hockey Program".

Congratulations to the successful applicants and thanks to all those who applied. It all starts with coaching.

U10 AAA Head Coach
Beau Moyer (non parent)

I have over 15 years of coaching experience from the U10-U18 levels. I grew up in North Bay where I played my minor hockey before two seasons in the OJHL with the Couchiching Terriers as an OJHL All Star in both campaigns. Then taking my studies and hockey abilities to the university of Wisconsin-Superior from 2001-2005 where we won the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2002 my freshman year.

From 2007-2009 I got my coaching start in North Bay in the Great North Midget League with the U18 Trappers. Then began a time in the GTHL from 2009-2025 spanning 4 different organizations, the Don Mills Flyers, Mississauga Reps, Vaughan Kings and Toronto Red Wings. The proudest accomplishment was in the 2011-2012 Season when my U11 Mississauga Reps won the GTHL Championship and OHF Championship. With the Reps from 2010-2015, I coached both the 2002 and 2001 birth years and had the opportunity to coach Buffalo Sabre Owen Power for 3 of those seasons. In 2016-2017 season coaching the Vaughan Kings U16 (2001) we lost in the OHL cup Semi Finals, had 12 OHL draft picks, 3 OHL first round picks, 1 NHL first round pick in Thomas Harley.

I bring a passion and energy that is contagious to my players on a daily basis. Creating a safe fun environment where kids develop and develop a joy and love for the game. Live by the motto of winning or losing with all 15 skaters fully involved in team results. My motto is kids coming to the rink with a smile and leaving with a smile and looking forward to the next team event.

Next year will be my first year in OMHA and I am looking forward to being involved with great hockey people like Rob Hisey, and putting the 2016 birth year as a prime destination in the OMHA.

Congratulations to Beau on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-10 (U10) AAA team for the 2025/26 season.

U11 AAA Head Coach
Shawn Shewchuk

Shawn Shewchuk grew up in Northern Alberta and played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for his hometown Lloydminster Blazers. After receiving scholarship opportunities in the NCAA, he opted to pursue an education and play for the McGill Redmen. There he was a captain and helped his team reach two National Championships for the first time in school history as well as a Queens Cup Championship in 2008. After graduating from McGill he completed his Master’s in Business Administration at McMaster University and played with the Dundas Real McCoys. While there, the team went to the Allen Cup three times after winning the Ontario championship. After spending 11 years advising National Hockey League players about their finances, Shawn is now a Vice President, Client Management at Waratah Capital Advisors.

Shawn has coached the Oakville Hornets and Rangers organizations since 2019. He believes that youth sports should be an avenue for kids to learn valuable life lessons that can help them overcome obstacles throughout their lives. While teaching skills and hockey IQ, Shawn is constantly striving to improve the mental strength of each of his players and aiding them to handle the inner workings of team dynamics. Coaches he looks to model himself after include Nick Sabban, Kara Lawson and Ted Lasso.

Shawn coached the U8 MD One team in 2022/23 season, the U9 MD One team in the 2023/24 season, and U10 AAA in the 2024/25 season. Shawn is excited to coach again in the Oakville Rangers organization at the U11 age group.

Congratulations to Shawn on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-11 (U11) AAA team for the 2025/26 season.

U12 AAA Head Coach
Matt Perry (non parent)

Matt was born in Toronto and raised in Mississauga and played minor hockey in the MTHL growing up. He attended the University of Western Ontario where he ended up staying in London and started his coaching career back in 2009.

Matt comes to Oakville with over 15 years of coaching experience at the AAA level with most of his coaching in the Alliance with the Jr. Knights and Elgin Middlesex Chiefs where he won 2 Alliance championships, made an OHF final and a trip to the OHL Cup and has twice been selected to the U15 coaching program of excellence. Matt is entering his 5th season coaching with the Oakville Rangers having been the head coach of the U16 2006 AAA team, an assistant on the U16 AAA 2007 team and the head coach of the U13 AAA-2 team and the most recently head coach of the U11 AAA team for 2024/25.

Matt’s hockey philosophy is about creating an environment where kids want to learn and grow as both players and as people; putting team before self; extracting the life lessons out of the sport; and preparing the player for the next level.

Congratulations to Matt on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-12 (U12) AAA team for the 2025/26 season.

U13 AAA Head Coach
Dom DeRenzis (non parent)

Dom has been coaching for 20+ years and is going into his 12th consecutive season with the Oakville Rangers. Prior to the 2013 age group, Dom spent 6 years with the 2008 AAA's in Oakville, coaching them from U11 to U16's OHL Draft. While the 2008's began their 6-year stint as a 4th place team in their OMHA West Division in U11 and 17th overall in Ontario, the players and parents bought into the coaching staff's message: "The process is a marathon, not a sprint. We are building for both team and individual success come U16, and in order to do so, there will be some coaching decisions made for the present team's success, and some decisions made for the long-term development plan of each individual player and for the team for the future". Credit to the players and parents who stayed with Oakville and understood Dom and the coaching staff had been through this process before, as the team then went on to achieve some incredible individual and team success: from U14 to U16, the team went 175-25-10 in their 210 games, finished top 3 in the Ontario rankings all 3 seasons, recorded regular season records of 23-0-2, 32-0, and 31-1-1-1, won all 3 tournaments they attended in U15 (Red Wings Early Bird, Marlboros Holiday Classic, Oakville Winter Classic), won the OHL Cup Championship in U16 which is the biggest team championship in Ontario minor hockey, had 12 players drafted to the OHL that season including the #1 overall pick, a player commit to NCAA Division 1 Boston College, and a player play for Team Canada at the World Youth Olympics in Korea.

Outside of hockey, Dom and the coaching staff put a very heavy emphasis on developing the "person", not just the "player". Players will develop their maturity, respectfulness, responsibility, and team-first mentality through Dom's teachings. Dom and the coaching staff will hold players accountable for their words and actions, how they treat others, and will even connect with teachers to get feedback on players behaviour and marks at school - making sure players understand the importance of being a good person and preparing them for life after hockey for whenever it comes to an end.

With multiple cycles through the minor hockey process as a parent, and multiple cycles through the minor hockey process as a coach, including the most recent 6-year process resulting in the 2024 OHL Cup Championship with the 2008 Oakville Rangers, Dom's knowledge and experiences give him the expertise to develop a team and individual players for their long-term plan through U16 to prepare them for what comes after minor hockey, both on the ice and off the ice.

Congratulations to Dom on his selection as Head Coach of the Oakville Rangers Under-13 (U13) AAA team for the 2025/26 season.

U14 AAA Head Coach
Rob Hisey

Rob is entering his seventh season coaching with the Rangers. He played minor hockey in Oakville and the GTHL. He went on to have a very successful OHL career where he was top 10 in OHL scoring twice and amassed over 300 points over his 4 seasons. Following the OHL, he played fourteen professional seasons. Playing in some of the top leagues in Europe and with the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers organizations.

Rob has enjoyed his time coaching in the Ranger Organization during the last 6 seasons and is excited to join the U14 group. The 2009 group he guided was able to grow into a top 10 OHL cup ranked team and he is hoping the 2012 group will do the same.

Along with coaching Rob works in skill development and has worked with several past and present Ranger players. He has a passion for teaching the game and sharing his knowledge.

His assistants will be Erick Lizon, former professional player in the AHL, ECHL and CHL, and Jon Gleed, Cornell graduate drafted by the Montreal Canadians and Calder Cup winner with the Hamilton Bulldogs. They are extremely excited to guide the group as well.

Congratulations to the group on their selection as the Coaching Staff of the Oakville Rangers Under-14 (U14) AAA team for the 2025-26 season.
