I am excited to embark on this coaching journey with the U13 AA Blue Rangers for the 2025/26 season. I bring a strong passion and commitment to helping young athletes develop their skills and love for this incredible game both on and off the ice. For the 2024/25 season, I have been the Assistant Coach for the U12 A Oakville Rangers team.
Being born and raised in Toronto, I developed my passion for hockey while playing in the GTHL (MTHL), and St. Mikes. I even made my first few bucks as a referee throughout high school (toughest job in sports!). Hockey has given me so many valuable life lessons, meaningful relationships (3 of my 5 groomsmen I was playing hockey with at age 12), and cherished memories on and off the ice.
Team Focus / Priorities
I will be taking a culture-first and human-centred approach to the team, which applies to both players and parents. Being the second Oakville team in the AA division, achieving team cohesiveness, trust amongst player and staff, and full buy-in to our core values (Energy, Focus, Attitude) will be paramount to having an enjoyable and successful season. My top 4 priorities:
- Positive team experience for EVERY player
- Team cohesiveness
- Player development
- Personal development
Make no mistake, we will be driven to win! However, I do not believe in winning at all costs, meaning that I will not sacrifice the priorities above or the full team’s enjoyment for the game to chase a win or specific spot in the standings.
Members of this team (including parents) will learn
- to build each other up and never tear each other down, creating resilience and driving positive competitiveness
- how and why Effort, Focus, and Attitude are all connected and essential to achieving team development and success
- mistakes are part of the game and imperative for development
- to recognize and celebrate many ‘small’ victories within a game that will eventually lead to larger wins
- it is impossible to play at your best if you are playing in fear
Energy is Infectious
Whether it’s training 30 people in a workshop, a presentation to 2000, running a practice, or standing behind a bench, I know that the energy I give off will affect those around me. To expect players to have positive attitudes and high energy, it MUST and will start with me leading by example at all times.
Open & Transparent Communication is Crucial
Lack of communication, consistent negative messaging, and excessive chatter (gossip), are absolute culture killers. I believe strongly in maintaining an open dialogue with constant feedback loops.
For players, this means making sure they understand why decisions are made, when they are made (plays, line pairings, team rules, etc). For parents, this means frequent check-ins and pulse checks.
As tone is often lost in text, I am a big advocate for face-to-face communication for both player and parent discussions, meetings, celebrations, and especially conflict resolution.
