PlaceToBe Entering the second season with Open Borders officially in play (see OHF announcement), the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club are as committed as ever to being THE PLACE TO STAY for our current players - and THE PLACE TO PLAY for elite talent seeking the best development experience.

Put simply, we are THE PLACE TO BE!

And yes, Evaluations are coming. We know this time of year brings a whirlwind of excitement, nerves, confusion, and anticipation. The new rules, systems, and terminology might turn up the pressure even more - but we are here to help make things clear.

Rep Player Evaluation Registration will open on April 1st

Evaluations will begin and end in alignment with OHF Regulations. Please reference the table below for starting dates. The full Evaluation Schedule can be found at https://oakvillerangers.ca/Tryouts/. PLAN TO ATTEND ALL OF THE EVALUTION SKATES LISTED IN THE SCHEDULE! Players are not notified to attend the next evaluation skate - NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS! Unless you receive an email specifically notifying you that you have been cut from the Evaluation, you will continue to attend the next session.

Tryout Restrictions
The Oakville Rangers reserve the right to restrict AA and AAA Tryouts to players with an appropriate playing experience:

  • AAA Tryouts: U10 AAA Tryouts will be restricted to players that played on an MD team in the previous season. U11 and Older AAA Tryouts will be restricted to players that played AA or AAA in the previous season.
  • AA Tryouts: U10 AA Tryouts will be restricted to players that played on an MD team in the previous season. U11 and Older AA Tryouts will be restricted to players that played any level of Rep (AAA, AA, A, or B/BB) in the previous season.
  • A and B/BB Tryouts: There are no restrictions on A and B/BB Tryouts.

None! If you are an Ontario resident and played anywhere in Ontario last season (including Oakville), no releases or permissions are needed. Just register and show up!

Rep Player Evaluation Registration will open on April 1st

All Rep Evaluation Registrations must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) - the same system you use to register your child for hockey each season. Step-by-step instructions are available here. Below you will find detailed, step-by-step instructions that walk through the registration process in the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). Or, you can click here to download this document in a PDF.

  • $TBD per level (AAA, AA, A, and B/BB - each tryout level is separate). For example, to attend a AAA Evaluation the Registration Fee is $TBD. If you don't make AAA and you want to attend the AA Evaluations, you must pay another $TBD, and so on. You must register for each level you want to attend separately.
  • As a not-for-profit organization, these fees cover ice time, instructors, and admin costs. Any surplus is reinvested into making Rep hockey more affordable.

In advance of Evaluations, the ORHC offers a series of Prep Skates. Participation is OPTIONAL and there are NO EVALUATIONS conducted during these sessions. Each session is 50-minutes long, at a cost of $TBD, and is run by professional instructors. As per OMHA regulations, only players registered with the Oakville Rangers for the 2025/26 season are eligible to attend Prep Skates. Please see below for the Prep Skate schedule and to register.

Space in each Prep-Skate is limited! Register early to ensure your spot!

If you are not able to attend an Evaluation due to injury, illness, or schedule conflict please inform the coach directly.

A single evaluation date may include two separate groups (ie. 7:00pm and 8:00pm) - this is called a Split Session. If an evaluation date is going to be split you will receive an email from the coach with your assigned time. For example, let's say there is a 2-hour session on the Monday at 7:00pm. The coach may elect to split this session - it is a single evaluation day, but half of the participants would go to at 7:00pm and the other half at 8:00pm. You will only attend ONE of the skates, and you will receive an email (usually the evening before) letting you know which of the halves you are to attend.

Oakville Rangers

Many Rangers AA, A and B/BB divisions consist of two teams - a "Red" Team and a "Blue" Team. Here is what you need to know:

  • You register by division (ie. U16 A), NOT by colour. You CAN NOT register specifically for only the Red or Blue team.
  • Red and Blue coaches collaborate during Evaluations; Red selects first, Blue follows.
  • Red coaches can select a player at any point in the Evaluation process. Blue coaches can also select a player at any time, provided the Red coach agrees with the selection.
  • Team selections may take longer than in the past due to Open Borders and overlapping tryouts across Ontario. Some Rangers players may explore other options, and initial attendance may vary. If needed, Blue teams may extend tryouts by 1-2 sessions to accommodate movement. A “Players Wanted” list will be posted on our website to support this process when necessary.

The following players are required to complete a Body Contact Clinic prior to attending Tryouts:

  • All U14 players (2013 birth year)
  • Any U15+ players who haven’t previously completed a clinic
  • Goalies are exempt from this requirement
