2026/27 ORHC Prep Academy MD Evaluations: What You Need to Know

The Oakville Rangers Prep Academy offers a best-in-class hockey development opportunity for U7, U8 and U9 participants to prepare these players for Oakville Rangers Rep Hockey from U10 to U18. The ORHC Prep Academy MD Teams participate in a regional based loop managed by the Tri-County Minor Hockey League. The OMHA classifies the Prep Academy Teams as "Minor Development", otherwise known as MD. Some of the highlights you can expect are:

The Oakville Rangers Prep Academy offers an elite experience focused on player development. This includes building technical skills, tactical understanding, physical fitness and mental acuity. There is no better hockey development available that combines the best of hometown hockey, tiered competition, professional development, and fun with friends. This is a Hockey Canada-sanctioned and Hockey Canada Pathway-approved environment, aimed at preparing players for Oakville Rangers Rep Hockey beginning at U10.


U7 MD Evaluations will be held in the Fall

U7 MD Evaluation Registration is now open!

As per OHF Regulations, evaluations for the U7 MD Teams are not held until the Fall, in early September. The U8 and U9 MD Evaluations were held in April. YOU MUST ATTEND EVALUATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE MD TEAMS! Evaluations will begin and end in alignment with OHF guidelines.

The U7 MD Evaluation Schedule can be found below. PLAN TO ATTEND ALL OF THE EVALUTION SKATES LISTED IN THE SCHEDULE! Players are not notified to attend the next evaluation skate - NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS! Unless you receive an email specifically notifying you that you have been cut from the Evaluation, you will continue to attend.

Evaluations will be held between September 13th and 16th, 2026. Players will be expected to attend ALL THREE Evaluation Sessions. Each session is a Split Session, which means each player will only attend either the first hour or the second hour of each session. You will receive an email the night before each session letting you know which hour to attend.

  • September 13: 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Joshua's Creek (Red)
  • September 14: 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Canlan (Rink 1)
  • September 16: 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Canlan (Rink 2)

None! If you're an OMHA or Alliance resident (including Oakville) you are eligible to play on an MD Team anywhere within the OMHA, no releases or permissions are needed. Just register and show up!

All Prep Academy MD Evaluation Registrations must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) - the same system you use to register your child for hockey each season.   • The Prep Academy Evaluation Registration Fee is $90.00.
  • As a not-for-profit organization, these fees cover ice time, instructors, and admin costs. Any surplus is reinvested into making Rep hockey more affordable.

The ORHC offers a series of Prep Skates in advance of Evaluations. Participation is OPTIONAL and there are NO EVALUATIONS conducted during these Prep Skates. Each session is 50-minutes long, at a cost of $37.00, and is run by professional instructors. Prep Skates are geared more towards Skaters than Goalies, and as such - Goalies are invited to attend for free (max 4 per session). If you are not able to attend an Evaluation due to injury, illness, or schedule conflict please inform the coach directly.

Each Evaluation Session includes two separate groups (ie. 5:00pm and 6:00pm) - this is called a Split Session. When an Evaluation is split you will receive an email from the coach with your assigned time. For example, on September 13th there is a 2-hour session from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. This is a single evaluation day, but half of the participants will go at 12:00pm and the other half at 1:00pm - you will only attend ONE of the skates, and you will receive an email from the coach letting you know which of the halves you are to attend.

The U7 MD Program consists of two teams ("U7 MD One" and "U7 MD Two"). Players do not register to be evaluated for a specific team, they register to be evaluated for the Division. For example, players are not able to specifically register for "U7 MD One" or "U7 MD Two", they register for "U7 MD".

  • One and Two collaborate during Evaluations; One selects first, followed by Two
  • Coaches can select a player at any point in the evaluation process
  • Players are not permitted to bypass one team or the other when being evaluated
  • It is important for players to understand they will be considered for ALL of teams and maybe offered a spot on ANY team at any point during the evaluations

Congratulations! Here is what happens next...

  • When the coach notifies you that you have made the team he will also provide you with a PRIVATE LINK to register - do not share this link with anyone
  • This registration is your acceptance of the offer to join the team
  • You must complete this registration to accept your offer within 24-hours or you will be at risk of loosing your spot
  • During the registration you will be charged a $949 non-refundable deposit

If you have already registered for the 2026/27 Jr Rangers you DO NOT have to complete the registration outlined above. Simply email the office at [email protected]. The ORHC Office will transfer your Jr Rangers Registration to the MD Team, your registration fees will be allocated to the Team's budget, and you will be sent an invoice for the difference in the registration fees.

Evaluation Registration Refunds are available up to 24 hours before the first skate. After that, no refunds will be issued - no exceptions, even if the player doesn't attend. In the case of U7 MD, the first Evaluation skate is on September 13th at 12:00pm. Therefore, Refund Requests will only be accepted until 12:00pm on September 12th.
