The Oakville Rangers Prep Academy offers a best-in-class hockey development opportunity for U7, U8 and U9 participants to prepare these players for Oakville Rangers Rep Hockey from U10 to U18. The ORHC Prep Academy MD Teams participate in a regional based loop managed by the Tri-County Minor Hockey League. The OMHA classifies the Prep Academy Teams as "Minor Development", otherwise known as MD. Some of the highlights you can expect are:

Ranger Bear
  • Professional development in addition to coach-run practices
  • Competitively tiered teams to ensure a fun and competitive environment
  • Season wrap-up Gala weekends
  • A number of Jamborees that will also feature teams from outside of Tri-County
  • Exhibition games and the ability to participate in other jamborees/tournaments
  • ...and more!

The Oakville Rangers Prep Academy offers an elite experience focused on player development. This includes building technical skills, tactical understanding, physical fitness and mental acuity. There is no better hockey development available that combines the best of hometown hockey, tiered competition, professional development, and fun with friends. This is a Hockey Canada-sanctioned and Hockey Canada Pathway-approved environment, aimed at preparing players for Oakville Rangers Rep Hockey beginning at U10.

U7 - U9 Minor Development ("MD") Teams do not fall within the scope of the OHF's Open Border policy. OMHA MD Teams are not residentially restricted, but the OMHA restricts MD Teams to OMHA residents only. What does this mean?

  • Oakville is a part of the OMHA
  • Only players who live within the OMHA are eligible to participate on MD Teams within the OMHA
  • Mississauga and Toronto are NOT part of the OMHA, and as such - Mississauga and Toronto residents are not eligible to participate with Oakville MD Teams

None! If you're an OMHA resident (including Oakville) you are eligible to play on an MD Team anywhere within the OMHA, no releases or permissions are needed. Just register and show up!

U7 MD Evaluations will be held in the Fall

U8 and U9 MD Evaluation Registration will open on April 1st

All Evaluation Registrations must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) - the same system you use to register your child for hockey each season. Step-by-step instructions are available here. Below you will find detailed, step-by-step instructions that walk through the registration process in the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). Or you can click here to download this document in a PDF.

  • The Prep Academy Evaluation Registration Fee is $TBD.
  • As a not-for-profit organization, these fees cover ice time, instructors, and admin costs. Any surplus is reinvested into making Rep hockey more affordable.

In advance of evaluations, the ORHC offers a series of Prep Skates. Participation is OPTIONAL and there are NO EVALUATIONS conducted during these sessions. Each session is 50-minutes long, at a cost of $TBD, and is run by professional instructors. As per OMHA regulations, only players registered with the Oakville Rangers for the 2025/26 season are eligible to attend Prep Skates. Prep Skates are geared more towards Skaters than Goalies, and as such - goalies are invited to attend for free (max 4 per session). If you would like to register as a goalie, please email Nathan McAnsh at [email protected]. Please see below for the Prep Skate schedule and for Skater registration.

Space in each Prep-Skate is limited! Register early to ensure your spot!

If you are not able to attend an Evaluation due to injury, illness, or schedule conflict please inform the coach directly.

A single evaluation date may include two separate groups (ie. 7:00pm and 8:00pm) - this is called a Split Session. If an evaluation date is going to be split you will receive an email from the coach with your assigned time. For example, let’s say there is a 2-hour session on the Monday at 7:00pm. The coach may elect to split this session - it is a single evaluation day, but half of the participants would go to at 7:00pm and the other half at 8:00pm - you will only attend ONE of the skates, and you will receive an email (usually the evening before) letting you know which of the halves you are to attend.

The U8 MD Program consists of two teams ("U8 MD One" and "U8 MD Two"), and the U9 MD Program consists of three teams ("U9 MD One", "U9 MD Two", and "U9 MD Three"). Players do not register to be evaluated for a specific team, they register to be evaluated for the Division. For example, players are not able to specifically register for "U8 MD One" or "U8 MD Two", they register for "U8 MD".

  • One, Two, and Three coaches (when applicable) collaborate during Evaluations; One selects first, followed by Two, then by Three
  • Coaches can select a player at any point in the evaluation process
  • Players are not permitted to by pass one team or the other when being evaluated
  • It is important for players to understand they will be considered for ALL of teams and maybe offered a spot on ANY team at any point during the evaluations
Oakville Rangers

Congratulations! Here is what happens next...

  • When the coach notifies you that you have made the team he will also provide you with a PRIVATE LINK to register - do not share this link with anyone
  • This registration is your acceptance of the offer to join the team
  • You must complete this registration to accept your offer within 2-hours of the next day's evaluation or you will be at risk of loosing your spot
  • If you have not registered and accepted your offer by the end of Evaluation Day 5 you will lose your spot on the team
  • During the registration you will be charged a $TBD non-refundable deposit

Evaluation Registration Refunds are available up to 24 hours before the first skate. After that, no refunds will be issued - no exceptions, even if the player doesn't attend. For example, if the first skate of the Evaluation were at 6:00pm on a Monday evening, refunds can be requested up until 6:00pm on the Sunday before that first skate.

To request a refund, please submit an Evaluation Registration Refund Request at https://oakvillerangers.ca/Forms/14117/.
