Shawn Shewchuk grew up in Northern Alberta and played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for his hometown Lloydminster Blazers. He then played for the McGill Redmen, in the U Sports league. There he was a captain and helped his team reach two National Championships for the first time in school history as well as a Queens Cup Championship in 2008. After graduating from McGill he completed his Masters in Business Administration at McMaster University and played with the Dundas Real McCoys. Shawn has coached with the Oakville Hornets and Rangers organizations since 2019. He believes that youth sports should be an avenue for kids to learn valuable life lessons that can help them overcome obstacles throughout their lives. While teaching skills and hockey IQ, Shawn is constantly striving to improve the mental strength of each of his players and aiding them to handle the inner workings of team dynamics. Coaches he looks to model himself after include Nick Sabban, Kara Lawson and Ted Lasso ("Be curious, not judgemental").
Why be A Ranger?
- Being a Ranger provides players with the opportunity to develop as hockey players at an elite level and grow as people within a community of dedicated individuals
- Players are evaluated on skill, leadership, character and work ethic. These traits are developed further through elite training, accountability and influences throughout the organization
The Oakville Rangers Elite Performance Program
The Oakville Rangers Elite Performance Program (OREPP) is a high-performance development program that elevates individual skills, team systems, and off-ice conditioning. Initially focused on our AAA teams (U10-U16) and top Red AA teams (U14-U16), this program provides the highest level of training available to Oakville Rangers players. Phase 1 runs from April 26 to June 26, featuring 2-3 off-ice training sessions and 1-2 on-ice skill development sessions per week, with most sessions scheduled Monday to Thursday to keep weekends free.

Program Details & Expectations
- The expectation for our team is to ensure every player believes they have a role to play and to develop the confidence to put forth their best effort each time they are on the ice or training. We will likely be on the ice three times a week for practice (4 hours of ice) and do off-ice training that promotes athleticism.
- Training camp will be the week leading into Labour Day weekend.
- Our plan is to attend four competitive tournaments, similar to last season, which included:
- Toronto Marlboros - Toronto, ON
- Silver Stick - Sarnia, ON (Whitby last year)
- Winter Classic - Oakville, ON
- TBD
Assistant Coach: Conor Murphy
Growing up in Oakville and Burlington, Conor is a former Ranger with a passion for scouting and developing young talent. His background in hockey started with an internship at Quartexx Management, a prominent hockey agency representing players from the grassroots level to the NHL. After graduating with a degree in Sport Management from Brock University, he worked a corporate job for a year while scouting youth hockey for an agency in his free time. After that, he secured a job at Play Hockey, helping scout the next wave of talent to build spring hockey teams and elite level showcase and exposure events. Conor believes that youth sports should be used as a vehicle to teach young people valuable life lessons that they can carry on into adulthood.
