Hockey has been a passion of mine since I first laced up my skates. Born and raised in Oakville, I played my entire minor hockey career with the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club. After my playing days came to an end, I knew I wanted to give back to the community and have the same positive impact on players that my coaches had on me as a young athlete. Now, with 10 years of coaching experience at ORHC, I’m dedicated to fostering a growth mindset in my players, developing a positive and inclusive team culture, and emphasizing hard work, team systems, structured play, fitness, and skill development.
I strive to help my players overcome challenges, teaching them how to push through difficult moments and stay resilient when things don’t go as planned. My goal is to help them develop not only as hockey players but as confident individuals who believe in themselves.
I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with my new players as they grow into exceptional hockey players and even better people.
What am I looking for in players?
I value players with high intensity, those who continually push the tempo in both practices and games. It’s not just about showing up to practice - it’s about bringing the same enthusiasm, speed, and determination that you would in a game. The quality of your effort is far more important than the number of hours you put in. Consistent, focused practice is key to improvement.
Season Outlook
Starting in September, our team will embark on a journey toward a successful season with skill development and power skating. During the season, we’ll practice 2-3 times a week, hold 1 dryland training session at BTNL Sports Performance, and play 1-2 games per week. Additionally, we’ll have monthly team-building and bonding activities to create a positive and supportive team environment.
Our team will participate in 1 pre-season tournament in September and 3 in-season tournaments (there will be no Christmas break tournament).
Confirmed tournaments include:
- Regional Silver Stick
- Oakville Rangers Winter Classic
Assistant Coach: Torin Hession
Torin Hession is from Oakville, and he grew up playing for the Oakville Rangers. Following his Minor Hockey career Torin played in the OJHL where he captained the Mississauga Chargers and won a Golden Horseshoe Championship with the GOJHL Kilty B’s. After his Junior career came to an end Torin had offers from the NCAA and Pro offers in Sweden but ultimately decided to give back to the game that has taught him so much and start his own hockey school to develop players to their highest potential. He is a true players coach.
Goalie Coach:
We recognize that most goalies have their own private goalie coaches. Our philosophy is to foster that relationship and be in contact with your private coach and discuss what skills your son or daughter is working on so we can plan effective and useful team practices where they are not just facing 1,000 shots. If you are looking for a new Goalie Coach we can assist you in finding the right fit as well.
