I grew up in a small town in Nova Scotia and played my Minor Hockey there until I moved on to Junior A, Major Junior and finally Professional hockey. I started my career in the minor leagues playing in both the ECHL and AHL before eventually graduating to the NHL where I was fortunate to play 10 seasons. My final season brought me overseas to Switzerland where I completed my 13th and final professional season. It was an interesting journey that provided me with some great experience at each stop along the way. Upon retiring and moving back to Oakville with my young family, I decided to get involved in coaching minor hockey.
My coaching philosophy is process driven with a focus on controlling the things we can control, which most importantly are work ethic and attitude. You can always choose to be a great teammate and choose to work hard and show me that you care. So I'm looking for kids who are coachable, willing to put the work in, have the skillset, and know when to use it.
Practice is where habits are formed and dictates the way a team plays their games. We would like to practice twice a week with a third practice implemented periodically as needed. There will be 3-4 tournaments, one of which will be the one here in Oakville, and one at the beginning of the season to bring the team together for some team bonding. The team will organize some dryland training sessions that will be encouraged and we will have a few video sessions to breakdown our play as a team.
