I was born and raised in Oakville and played my minor hockey in Oakville before moving to the GTHL. I was drafted to the OHL and played four years in the league before turning pro. I spent 14 years as a professional hockey player and when I retired I got into the development side of the game and began coaching minor hockey. I've been a AAA Oakville Rangers coach for the past six years. Our team has been very successful for a number of reasons, and I believe the main reasons for this are the development of foundational skills and learning how to play the game from both an individual side and team aspect. It's one thing to have a lot of hockey knowledge, it's another thing to be able to teach that knowledge to your players. As a coach, I feel like I am able to do this while always relaying the message of “why” we are doing this - which I feel young players love to know. Hockey is my passion and as a coach I try to give my players that passion as well.
What are we looking for?
As a coach, I am always looking for high IQ hockey players that are competitive. In my years of coaching and development I've learned that a kid who understands the game and is highly competitive has a very high chance of getting better . Our practices will be very competitive and always at a high pace.
The Oakville Rangers Elite Performance Program
The Oakville Rangers Elite Performance Program (OREPP) is a high-performance development program that elevates individual skills, team systems, and off-ice conditioning. Initially focused on our AAA teams (U10-U16) and top Red AA teams (U14-U16), this program provides the highest level of training available to Oakville Rangers players. Phase 1 runs from April 26 to June 26, featuring 2-3 off-ice training sessions and 1-2 on-ice skill development sessions per week, with most sessions scheduled Monday to Thursday to keep weekends free.

Season Outlook
I am a big believer in practice, I would rather have 5 practices than 1 game. Our team will likely be on the ice for practice three times a week. We will also be in the gym off ice once a week as a team. This will be monitored with our schedule to decide what kind of workout we will do that week. Training camp will be the week leading into Labour Day weekend. Date is still to be determined, but on one of the first weekends in September we will head away for an exhibition series and some team bonding. Also still to be determined, we will also be going on a special College Weekend trip, and we are planning three tournaments:
- Wendy Dufton Memorial - London, ON
- Silver Stick - Whitby, ON
- Winter Classic - Oakville, ON
